The 1778 La Scala Opera House is amazing. Home to several performing companies, and restored after WW2 damage, its capacity is 2,030, spread over six tiers of boxes and floor seating. The main chandelier was recently relamped with 300 LED bulbs once the correct color was found. Truly a jaw-dropping venue. #milan #lascala #historictheatre

The Teatro Goldoni, originally built in 1622(!) is Venice’s oldest theatre. Briefly closed by Napoleon after the fall of the Republic of Venice it reopened in 1818, and hosed a number of important productions. It has 800 seats between its 4 tiers of boxes and floor seating. Sadly we were unable to get inside during this trip, but next time! #venice #historictheatre #italy

Originally built in 1792, and later rebuilt after several fires, the “La Fenice” (ironically the mythical Phoenix) is absolutely jaw dropping. The most recent restoration, followed an arson and reopened in 2003. So much gold! #historictheatre #venice #italianoperahouse
